After the source’s vital information has been documented, it is time to read the source thoroughly and take notes about pieces of information that are of interest. It is important to document the page number or numbers on which the information being copied can be found. After accumulating notes taken from several sources, it is time to write the paper. It may be necessary to code your notes or label sections of the notes to be able to better organize them into a rough draft. For instance, if the topic is pastries, a researcher may have notes from several books and articles that all contain similar elements. They all have at least a sentence, if not much more, on the history of pastries. Several sources contain information on the methods of making pastries. Most of the sources contain a little information relating to economy, such as costs and consumerism. Labels such as history and methods or the symbol $ could be placed within the notes and off to the side of the text to identify a common element. Then, rewrite or type each sentence or paragraph that has been labeled into each specific group or category, and those labels can become sections within the paper
