Related to international issue or local or social or personal related topic

For your first essay (argumentative essay), you are free to choose your own topic as far as it is a
socially significant local, national, or international issue.

Note that you will be asked to complete small scaffolding assignments and two drafts prior to
submitting the final version of your essay. These small assignments and drafts are meant to help
you to make your argumentative essay strong and effective.

Below are the guidelines I want you to follow.

• Your essay must make a compelling argumentative claim, with your audience and the
context you are writing in mind.
• You can use any of the argumentative appeals such as ethos, logos, and pathos.
• Your essay must have a fully-developed introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion.
• Your essay should be about 5 pages in Times New Roman, 12-point font.
• Your essay must cite three sources and provide a works cited page, following the MLA
convention.
• Your essay must have an appealing title.
*You should submit a printed hardcopy to me in class, in addition to uploading the final version
of your essay in the appropriate dropbox on D2L by the deadline date and time.
*Your document should be double-spaced, in Times New Roman, 12-point font, with 1-inch margins.
*In the header, include your name, course name and section, my name, and assignment number. The
header should be single-spaced.
