Introduction
Psychodynamic approach to leadership is evaluative to one’s own psychological make-up and what motivates their reaction to situations and emotions in the environment and the people around them. The main intention of this approach to leadership is to improve the situation that exists between the leader and the people they are leading. By understanding their personality characteristics, the leader and the people they lead are able to understand how they respond to each other. Northhouse (2013) states that “…leaders can be more effective if they have insight into their own psychological make-up” (p.272).
