Leadership Reflective Essay

 

A reflection paper is a two- to three-page essay that lets you share your thoughts on an experience, such as a reading assignment or a class, and apply what you have learned to your life and education. Unlike most essays, they are relatively informal, focusing on your reactions to the experience and how you plan to apply what you have learned. Organization, unity of ideas, and clear examples are all keys to creating a successful reflective essay.

 

  1. REQUIREMENTS

Take a free online leadership personality test of your choice to see what leadership means to you and what your strengths as a leader are. It is up to each student, not the instructor, to decide which particular online leadership personality test each student wishes to take.

 

After completing the online test, write a 500-word reflective essay that analyzes and discusses what your test results mean to you as a leadership student at PMU. Remember: use this opportunity to use self-assessment as a tool to become a better leader!

 

  1. MAIN SECTIONS

All essays must have the following five main sections and the following five main headings:

 

  • Introduction (20 marks)

Use your own words to define leadership (4 marks). What is the name of the online test? (4 marks) Why did you pick this particular test? (4 marks) How long did it take you to complete it? (4 marks) Would you recommend this test to another classmate? Why, or why not? (4 marks)

 

  • Review and Analysis of My Test Results (35 marks)

 

  • My Growth Areas (25 marks)

Focus on two or three weak areas that you could develop more fully to become a better PMU student leader (5 marks). How do you plan to improve your weak areas? (5 marks) Based on your test results, how could you incorporate other people’s ideas about leadership into your own leadership? (5 marks) Provide three specific examples. (10 marks)

 

  • Conclusion (10 marks)

 

  • Appendix: include here a scan or screenshot of your test results (10 marks)

 

 

  • ESSAY FORMAT

Up to 30 marks can be deducted if the essay you submit does not strictly follow the following formatting guidelines.

  • Cover page: the very front page of your essay
  • Fonts: Your essay should be Word processed in 12-point Times New Roman fonts.
  • Double-space: Your entire essay should be double-spaced, with no single spacing anywhere and no extra spacing. There should not be additional spaces between paragraphs.
  • Margins: Your essay should have a one-inch margin on the top, bottom, left, and right. However, for this course, keep the default margins in Word.
  • Page Numbers: Your last name and the page number should appear in the upper right corner of each page of your essay, including the cover page, as in Jones 3. Insert your name and the page number as a “header.” Do not type this information where the text of your essay should be.
  • Title: Your essay should include a title and the topic number. The title should be centered and should appear under the heading information on the second page (the first page is the cover) and above your essay’s first line. The title should be in the same fonts as the rest of your paper, with no quotation marks, no underlining, no italics, and no bold.
  • Indentation: All students must indent the first line of each paragraph. This indentation should be 1/2 inch or five spaces, but pressing [Tab] once should give you the correct indentation.
  • Align Left: Your essay’s text should be lined up evenly at the left margin but not at the right margin. In your word processor, choose “Align Left.” Do not select “Justify.”
  1. ASSIGNMENT LENGTH REQUIREMENT

Up to 30 marks can be deducted if the essay you submit falls short of the required target word count by 5%. The word count refers to the information provided in the body of the text. Accordingly, the cover page, references, and the appendix are not supposed to be included as part of the word count.
