1. The Way Around”, David Good mentions on multiple occasion that it was terribly challenging to communicate with the Yanomami because of language differences. Not understanding another language is a great hindrance for conducting anthropological research. In similar circumstances, we would most probably revert to pantomime – body language. As David Good found out, haptics (touching) played a large role in communication. What were some of the examples of this in the text? With our increasing use of technology (email, social media, texting, etc.) are we as humans losing the subtleties of our own communication – body language, eye contact etc.? Reflect on your own life experiences with all this technology.
