Paper Topic and Requirements *Paper is to include five paragraphs: Introduction, Body Paragraph 1, Body Paragraph 2, Body Paragraph 3, and the Conclusion. *Paper must have a title that is underlined or italicized. *Paper must have a Works Cited page. *Paper must have parenthetical citations (MLA format)—(last name of author page #)—at end of sentence before the “period”—for paraphrased and quoted information. REQUIRED Writing Assignment Paper Topic Questions: Using Richard Godbeer’s Escaping Salem: The Other Witch Hunt of 1692, students are to answer the following questions: 1) Body Paragraph 1–“Were the pain and screaming of Kate Branch due to natural or supernatural causes? If you believe they were due to natural causes, please explain why. If you believe they were due to supernatural causes, please explain why. Was Branch simply faking the symptoms? And if she was indeed bewitched, “why believe her specific accusations, since her information came from demons who might well be lying”? 2) Body Paragraph 2–What type of evidence did the Stamford, Connecticut court use to prove witchcraft? Was this fair? If so, why? If not, why? 3) Body paragraph 3–What does Godbeer’s book reveal about New England (Connecticut (CT), Massachusetts (MA), Vermont (VT), New Hampshire (NH), Rhode Island (RI) and Maine (ME)) society i.e., was all of New England the same? Did everyone in New England at that time think of witches, witch trials, and evidence the same? Why? Why not? More specifically, I am asking you with #3 to compare (similarities) and to contrast (differences) between the Stamford Witch Trials and the Salem Witch Trials. For example, how were the Stamford, Connecticut (CT) Witch Trials similar and different from those of Salem, Massachusetts? Does what Godbeer reveal contradict or reaffirm the infamous Salem Witch Trials?
