Criminal Justice Officer Code of Ethics

In law enforcement, the Code of Ethics requires an officer to recognize that the duty is to serve mankind, safeguard lives and property and to respect the Constitutional rights of all men to liberty, equality and justice. It also requires officers to keep their private lives unsullied as an example, “maintain courageous calm in the face of danger, scorn or ridicule” (Kardasz, 2008 para. 6). It also calls for right mindedness and minding about the welfare of others. There is the emphasis on confidentiality and anonymity.
The code also requires the officers to refrain from acting “officiously” (Kardasz 2008 para 8). Officers are not supposed to let personal feelings, prejudice, friendships and animosity to interfere with the dispensation of duties and influence decisions. The officers are required to……..
