Corporate Assessment
The paper for this course is a Corporate Assessment. You will select a corporation and research a particular aspect of the company. You will then write an assessment describing the relevance of that area, giving in-depth detail on its significance. To write this paper you will need to research companies financial statements and annual reports, for this reason publicly traded companies are much easier to use than non. You will start by selecting a unique corporation for this project and post the company name in Corporate Selection Discussion Post. You may not use the same company another student has selected. After selecting a company, you will need to identify a particular aspect/division/product to serve as the primary focus of your assessment. Using this focus, you will research and address different issues the company is facing. Your research should consist of company documents (such as Annual Reports), press releases, and media descriptions that relate to your specific focus. I recommend selecting a publicly traded company because you are unlikely to find the depth of research needed for a business privately owned. Ultimately, your assessment should apply reasoning, strategic thinking, and forecasting skills to make your own evaluations on the decisions made by the company. Your research should provide the support/citations that validate your assessment. This is not a review of the company; it is an assessment of the specific choices they make. You should be critical of your company by identifying and explain what you do not agree with, when applicable. Potential ideas include: o An evaluation that looks over mergers, subsidiaries, or asset acquisitions o An overview of a recent decision or event that has affected the company, and how it changed a strategic decision. o Forecast of the corporations future potential, either with respect to profit, market structure, or as an employer. Your audience for this paper is a company or potential client/investor, so this paper should have a business professional presentation and a tone appropriate for the workplace. Throughout this paper you may assume a certain degree of economic knowledge by your reader, but should still include a thorough explanation on exactly how business-related concepts are influencing your evaluation.
