Purpose: To develop experience with research and academic writing while utilizing a variety of critical thinking skills. Learning Objectives: As you complete this assignment, you will be addressing the following CIS 110 objectives: Compose written texts and deliver oral presentations that represent relevant and informed points of view appropriate for the audience, purpose, and occasion. Employ research skills to find, analyze, evaluate, and properly cite pertinent primary and secondary sources, using relevant discovery tools (e.g. InfoKat, Library Databases, Google), as part of the process of composing work in written, oral, and visual modes. Organize, revise, practice, edit, and proofread (for grammar and mechanics) their own and other student work flexibly and effectively to improve the development and clarity of ideas. Define goals for improving/revising work and devise effective plans for achieving those goals, in collaboration with peers, instructor, and librarians. Employ and evaluate interpersonal communication skills. Second, conduct research on this topic, paying particular attention to the credibility of the sources you are locating. Third, as you write your essay, make sure that you are thoroughly synthesizing and integrating your research, as well as accurately applying the required communication concepts associated with your topic option. Assignment Expectations Content Provide depth and insight into your chosen topic Main points should clearly address the purpose/thesis and be fully developed Your analysis should be appropriate for the essay context and audience Utilize multiple specific examples related to the thesis and main points of the essay Apply communication concepts to your topic, using research and examples to illustrate this application fully and accurately Weave evidence throughout essay; each main point should be equally supported Use breadth and depth of evidence/supporting material You must have at least four full pages of actual content/text (this does NOT include your cover page, abstract, or references) Structure Your essay should have clear organization Your thesis should be clearly stated Utilize transitions between main points and within paragraphs to help guide the reader Use your introduction to draw in your audience and preview what will be covered in the essay Use your conclusion to summarize and tie together your content and leave the audience with something memorable Each paragraph should have a clear topic sentence. That topic should be supported throughout that paragraph Language use should be appropriate and desсrіptive for the audience Use internal summaries and connectives (for example, to clarify, moreover) Adhere to standards of written English language (including correct grammar, punctuation, etc.) Use proper APA style for all in-text citations and references, as well as general formatting (e.g., 1” margins, 12-point Times New Roman font, double-spaced, etc.) Technical Requirements At least 4 full-5 pages (NOT including your cover page, abstract, or reference page), double-spaced, 12-point Times New Roman font, 1” margins.
