″1776: The Crisis″ is an interactive exploration of George Washington′s 1776 military campaign. You will be taking the position of General Washington as Commander in Chief of the Continental Army, and during this long Summer and desperate Fall you will be faced with a number of difficult questions. In this exercise, you will be given the information that Washington had at his hand in 1776 and confront the very questions he faced and the decisions he made. At each point, you will have from 1 to 3 options to choose from, and you must choose and deal with the consequences. You will then move on to the next turning point based upon your decisions. Perhaps you will be more successful than Washington, or perhaps, in your hands, the Revolution will fail . . . ″Link to the 1776: The Crisis″ ˂– Click that 1. You may ″play″ the activity as many times as you like, particularly since it is possible to lose to the British rather easily, but you should keep some notes (a journal) describing each of the ″histories″ you experience, your decisions, and your results. 2. The activity can take quite a while; some students last semester spent several hours completing it. So, there is a ″bookmark″ button at the top. If you wish to stop where you are, click the ″bookmark″ button and THEN save the page as a bookmore in your browser (usually Ctrl-D). You can then go back to that spot in your narrative by opening that bookmark. (Note that if you just try to bookmark the page without first clicking the ″bookmark″ button, when you come back you′ll start over at the beginning. 3. You must play the game until you are at least partially successful (to the beginning of 1777). You will then turn in a ″Commander′s Report to Congress″ in which you will explain to Congress what happened and why you made the decisions you made as if you were General Washington. You should also outline for Congress (as General Washington) what you thought were the most important decisions and events of the campaign. [Once you′ve played through once, this paragraph will make more sense.] The report you turn in should be a minimumb of 750 words single spaced, and should present your experience in the military campaign as the commander to Congress. You′ll need to describe the highlights/turning points of the campaign, the situations, your decisions, and the consequences. Feel free to be creative in your presentation.
